William Fife III -  master designer

Long considered among the greatest of yacht designers, William Fife designed around 600 vessels, including Sir Thomas Lipton’s famed Shamrock I and Shamrock III, both contenders for the America’s Cup.

With over 1,000 yachts built in it’s 125 history, William Fife and Sons Yacht Builders created legendary yachts such as Pen Duick, Tuiga, Lady Anne, Moonbeam III, and Hallowe’en.  Recognized by Fife Historian May McCallum as the “epitome of elegance and design” Fife yachts are among the most prized of today’s racing classics.

Although the Six Meters were small in comparison to most Fife yachts, Fife became a pioneer for the class, instrumental in developing rules and often racing his designs himself in both Europe and the U.S. In his lifetime, he designed 62 Six Meters, but only one with an Olympic medal- Clarity.
